CLASSES
A "class" is a way to clarify the skills and abilities your character will have in the game. It can also say a lot about their personality. A Sorcerer may be haughty and self important while a fighter may be hot-headed and quick to take up their sword for a cause. Below is an outline of the common classes for adventurers in Estel Úqua. There are, of course, merchants and homemakers, Queens and Emprexes, Farmers and Miners and all the various cast of a regular fantasy world, but only NPCs play these character classes.
-
Fighter
Fighters the backbone of the nations, both in times of peace as they guard travelling merchants and cities, and in times of war as they amass for battles that change the face of the nations. Some fight for their pride, or the people, others for money. For most fighters, the sword isn't just a way of life, it's their best friend, their one true love.
-
Sorcerer
Magic may have started with the Elves, but all peoples have successfully learned it, although it's not easy. A half rate Sorcerer can light her way at night. A good one can cast spells to turn men into stone. They are, by and far, the most respected and educated class on the continent and few Sorcerers are willing to let those around them forget it.
-
Cleric
A Cleric is said to have the very ear of their god, and their prayers are often answered when no regular man's would have been. Dwarven clerics follow the Balmnese faith, Elven clerics pray to either Chiptonter or Godasbuton, Orc clerics frequently find the favor of the Fire Ape as clerics of Olborere or the Sect of Cromford, or more rarely send their prayers to Persaxrid, Tremlins serve Winkingin, and the rare Human Cleric follows the Kindoke Faith. If Sorcerers mock a Cleric's power it is only in private for even an arrogant Sorcerer would not dare blaspheme a god in front of their most devout follower.
-
Monk
All monks follow the ways of Ofsillingian, studying hard in the Elven monasteries to learn the tenants of 'do no harm', they are not all Elves. Nor are monks incapable of self defense as their meditations and rituals have made them powerful fast and potentially deadly foes if you should break the second half of their tenant and "do harm" to Nature, themselves, or innocents.
-
Paladin
When a fighter dedicates their blade and skill to their god, it is said they gain powers in battle that normal men do not have. For Dwarves that God is Dudnabing, Elven dedicated their lives to either Chiptonter or Godasbuton, Orc clerics fight in the name of the Fire Ape as Paladins of Olborere or the Sect of Cromford, or more rarely Persaxrid, Tremlins Paladins serve Winkingin, and the rare Human Paladin follows the Kindoke Faith. Warriors envy their skill, but not their dedication to following the will of their gods.
-
Ranger
Despite the claiming of the lands of Estel Uqua by those that inhabit it, the wilds still exist and there are many wild places even within the boundaries of countries. These are the places Rangers prefer. The solitude, the adventure, the chance to discover something new calls to them. Rangers are adept at finding their way, foraging for food, fighting and, above all, surviving the unknown. Many Human Rangers are also followers of the Rokere Faith.
-
Shaman
Shamans posses powers that they claim are given to them by their connection with the Spirit Realm. While Sorcerers and Clerics might argue this, it remains a fact that Tremlin Shamans following the Witherbu Spirit path and Dwarven followers of Maton Shamanism are both powerful in their respective arts, pulling feats that magic cannot match. Many Shamans are also Rangers or Fighters as well. Please note: bone decorations are NOT worn in game (very taboo for all cultures), while furs and feathers without skulls or bones are acceptable (along with wood, metal, plant based items, etc) Also, while the terms "druid" and "shaman" may apply to various out of character cultures, you will be asked to change if you are not a bipoc and are wearing an indigenous outfit. Celtic and other European cultural dress is fair game for everyone as those traditions have been used relentlessly out of context by their own cultures. It is preferred if you make your own designs and styles instead of relying on out of character traditions!
-
Rouge
What is society without those who seek to take that which they did not earn? Rouges are either highly sought or bitterly hated, depending on where you stand. While thievery is outright illegal in the realms, there are those few who dare learn and practice it's art. The days where Rouges were regaled in ballads for their deft skills at lock-picking may be yesteryear's memory, but the days where men will pay good gold to take other's fortunes are certainly alive and well.
-
Druid
The Druid shuns modern society, instead preferring the old ways and animistic beliefs. They are at one with nature and have an unnatural communication with nature and the creatures that inhabit it. Druids are either Humans who follow the Rokere Faith, or other peoples who prefer nature over the companionship of their own kind.
-
Bard
Bards live by their art, and most bards play a portable instrument - vocals, lyre, flute - are all common among these wanderers. Bards rarely ever stay in one place for too long. Some say it's because their welcome runs out, but a true bard knows it's because adventure makes the best ballads. Legends say that some bards can even work magic with their music, but if that's true they are few among their kind and most prefer to also be proficient with a sword.
