The Grey
The Grey is the soundless and colorless realm of the Dead in Estel Úqua and all who die must travel through it. If they're lucky, they'll find a circle and be able to return to the living world, healed and whole. If they're not, they'll be trapped in the Grey for eternity, or worse yet, be destroyed by the Shades and other strange creatures that reside there.
While Circles are naturally occurring 'soft spots' that connect the world of Estel Úqua to the Grey, it was the Elven sorcerers who figured out how to create new circles throughout the realms. Now, though, circles are losing their power and unlucky folk are often finding themselves in a circle far from home or trapped within the Grey, unable to find an exit. The International Sorcerer's Society is assured that it's a temporary shift and frequently remind those who express concern that they have it well underhand and they should enjoy the chance to see distant lands, as the realms are at peace, after all.

Interestingly, there are no graves in Estel Úqua, as there are never bones or bodies left to be buried. Instead, Callings - displays, plates, or tables made by a missing soul's loved ones to call them home - are placed near the circle if they do not return quickly.
Likewise, there are no skulls or bones - unless you dig it out of the flesh of a living person. It is said there there were once monsters that walked the land and performed such dark practices. But, like the Sidhe of lore, any such creatures have long since vanished and this act is forbidden in all the lands and will die at the hands of anyone who knows their vile practice until the Grey keeps them.
As players you will only interact with the Grey during a death mod. Any time your character dies, you will spend a set amount of time NPCing various characters and monsters before receiving your death mod. After your mod you will put on your Out Of Character white headband and go to the Circle where your character will regenerate with all their hit points and skills at full.
Talking in the Grey - Grey Sign
As the Grey is soundless, it's impossible to talk in the Grey. Because of this, some basic signs have become common use in those who are more adventurous or those who are elderly and expect to pass into the Grey at any point. Angle McDaniel has helpfully outlined the most common signs used in the Grey by adventurers below.
